Deep Squats (Thoughts)

Tim!

I wanted to send you a picture of me at my new gym in Buenos Aires – I just finished my first month with them!!

They have a birthday tradition that is equally obnoxious and heartwarming: at the end of the workout they play the most obnoxious happy birthday song on the speaker and everyone does the number of burpees that the birthday-person has just turned. AND, the coaches stand behind the birthday-person and shout out the number of burpees as they do them (1, 2, 3, etc etc). Thought you would enjoy that!

But anyway, as you are always talking about how happy building the CrossFit community makes you, I just wanted to pass this all along and thank you for pushing me always (it was your and my moms voice in my head that had me finding a good gym and immediately signing myself up within my first week in Buenos Aires – well before I had moved in officially to my apartment, figured out public transportation, or anything else, really.)

Hope everything is going well in Palo Alto! Best, Maya (white shirt/pink shorts) These emails NEVER get old. Thank you. And keep ‘em coming! See you in class. Tim

You are not special. I am DEFINTELY not special. Which means I am addicted to my phone just like you. The phone/pocket computer is so useful and yet, so frustrating with how much time gets spent looking at the most mundane and trivial stuff. I mean, all my news feed is totally applicable to my life and doesn’t cause anxiety or anything negative. (insert eyeroll here)

So how can we have a device we need but not feel compelled to spend HOURS on it each day? I invite you to try going Grayscale with me and see if screen time is affected. Need more info? Here’s an article from a high school student all about how our brains work with color.

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. Toggle on Color Filters and then select Grayscale.

Thank you for your support.

I look forward to what we will do together.
