A Little Something

“It’s only worth it if you work for it.”

Deep Squats (Thoughts)

I took a trip to Virginia last weekend. I went to spend time with Luke and watch him play in a lacrosse game. Lots of bonuses along the way, too, like meals with my graduating nephew (goalie for the team), seeing another CrossFit affiliate and catching my first fish in over 35 years!

Just to get there was so much time spent sitting from SFO to Charlotte to Richmond. Then more sitting in a car for an hour drive to CrossFit Gloucester for a drop-in and workout with OG Stephanie Johnston. I ran into trouble all along the way to make this happen. I went to the wrong gate in Charlotte and RAN to the right one. I forgot to book a car ahead of time and barely got one of the last cars during a Forestry Convention weekend. BUT, I remained committed because I had committed to being there. (I bought the drop-in earlier in the week.)

Last week I shared Craig’s lesson on CrossFit making better people and communities. But, the lessons don’t work unless you do. And the lesson, or reminder, today is that you have to keep working at it. The work is hard. Every day. Life will happen. Everything will, seemingly, conspire to keep you from doing the things that will make you better. So when you do them you will feel accomplished and fulfilled. Fight for that. The act of fighting for what you want is what changes you for the better. As you get better you will have a positive effect on those around you.

These are basic concepts, but they remain valuable and powerful. What brought me back to the basics is a phrase from Dr. Jerry Lynch. He’s a sports performance coach and has worked with countless championship teams. “Your influence is never neutral.” I encourage you to read the linked article and to remember that “The things that you do and that you don’t do are more powerful than you think.” That’s from Jordan Peterson.

You are valuable. The people in your life are valuable. And you have the opportunity to show them that they’re valuable by taking care of yourself so you can give them your best. Selfishly, I love getting to see Luke as he changes and grows at school. I thoroughly enjoy watching him play lacrosse. My bigger hope from last weekend is that he would see that he is worth the time, money and effort for me to spend time with him. And just maybe, he’ll feel that value and gain the desire to do that for others in his life.

I hope something in here can help you in some way today.

See you in class.

Tulsa King

Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), just after he is released from prison after 25 years and unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Okla. Realizing that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters, to help him establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.

Tim’s Takeaway: Travel for me means watching movies and series on planes. Referred by a member, Jonathan, I got into this one and enjoy it. Totally ridiculous, yet another fun time watching and seeing how the stories play out.

Thank you for your support.

I look forward to what we will do together.
