Data, Bots and More

Data Squats (Thoughts)

Today is an attempt to provide a Public Service Announcement. I remember when there were “Do Not Call” lists you could put your phone number on and you would stop getting sales calls. Now, our home address, email and phone numbers are out in the world for all to see and to try and scam us or raise money for a politician. In a surprise to me there is a useful program in California to try and reduce our public presence and information exposure to unwanted advances from companies seeking to take advantage of us. I have attempted to cut and paste an email I received from this program.

Hello!

You’re receiving this update because you signed up for notifications about the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) when you submitted a request to delete your personal data from 675+ data brokers. You’re now part of a growing group of over 585,000 Californians who have taken this step. And DROP deletions are happening — a typical DROP user has already had their personal information reported as deleted by more than 195 data brokers.

Have you checked your DROP status yet? Keep reading to learn how.

  • Use your DROP ID anytime to check the status of your request. Your DROP ID (an 8–10 character code) lets you review or edit your request, so please don’t share it with anyone. Forgot your DROP ID? Request it.
  • As data brokers process requests, they report results back to DROP. These appear as one of five status types: deleted, exempt, opted-out, record not found, or pending. You may be able to improve match rates by adding more identifiers—like a Mobile Advertising ID (MAID) or an additional email, to your request.

I would love to know what y’all think about this program and if it will do any good in the battle against the bots reaching out to me trying to buy my gym or trying to offer me financing to buy equipment for the same gym! LOL!

See you in class.

The Terminal List: True Believer

Based on the book, TRUE BELIEVER by: Jack Carr, season two finds James Reece searching for new purpose after finishing his list. But when the CIA corners him, Reece must clear his name by stopping a resurgent Al-Qaeda that has turned Reece’s former ally to their cause. Reece will uncover a conspiracy that reaches from Moscow to Langley even to his own family’s history.

Tim’s Takeaway: Another “Must Watch” series. Similar to “Reacher”, but better. Better acting. Better drama. This is a perfect sequel to the first series and leaves us already looking forward to the next.

Tell me what you like. Music? Books? Movies? Series?

Thank you for your support.

I look forward to what we will do together.
