Your Deep Squats (Thoughts)
No Shortcuts Training.
I received the most ironic email. It was advertising a gym programming service. The name of the service was “No Shortcuts Training”. I kid you not. I laughed a little before I deleted it on principle. They were literally offering me a shortcut, a business that would program workouts for my gym.
There are no shortcuts. To anything worth having. At least that’s my experience. I won’t sell you a shortcut. How could I sell something that doesn’t exist?
Want to lose weight? Be in a caloric deficit while fueling for muscle retention and building. Want to gain muscle? Eat animal protein and lift heavy when we tell you to lift heavy. Then be patient. This thread could be its own email. Just remember that “nothing changes if nothing changes.”
Now let me reassure you about a few things. Our workouts are programmed by me, not an outside service or whoever won the CrossFit Games at any point in time. Your email replies come from me, not ai. This newsletter will always come from me. That’s why sometimes it’s late, seemingly random and way too stream of conscious to be coming from a data center. We will always use notebooks and pens. We will NOT have big TV’s to display the workout.
You get me, faults and all. Just like I, and everyone else here, accept you just as you are. Thanks for reading. And for showing up. And for giving to every other person that walks in our door.
After writing this, maybe I read it all wrong. Maybe the service they were trying to sell was to teach me that there are no shortcuts… Now THAT would be funny.
See you in class. Tim
