Cheating In CrossFit

“Everybody wants to be a part of something.”

Deep Squats (Thoughts)
As you can imagine, I think A LOT about how to get people moving through full Range Of Motion in their exercises and workouts. Full ROM is important for the health of your joints and for the maximum benefit from the workout. Accommodations are always made if ROM is limited, but the intention is always to achieve it with good mechanics demonstrated consistently before ramping up intensity. Watch the video above for even more reasoning behind hitting depth on squats, in particular. If depth is not achieved, you’re basically cheating! And as your youth sports coach said, “You’re not just cheating yourself, you’re cheating the team.”
Summer Vacation is ending. School has started for many in our community. So I thought it would be useful to give some tips for this season, namely some driving/directional tips for getting to CFPA in a timely manner to avoid BURPEES.
Tip #1: Leave 5-10 minutes earlier. There are going to be a lot more cars on the road with everyone back in town. From my observation post watching Middlefield all day, traffic is heaviest Monday through Thursday during morning and evening commuting hours. And if it works out that you arrive earlier, use the time to roll out/stretch to loosen up for class.
Tip #2: Avoid the San Antonio/Middlefield intersection. Basically, do whatever you can to not come from the North which requires turning left into CFPA. If coming from the North, try to get to Leghorn (Oil Changers) to Independence (RIGHT) to Middlefield (RIGHT) to turn RIGHT into CFPA.
If coming from Alma/El Camino, turn into Google on Mayfield Ave, RIGHT on Nita Ave, RIGHT on Dell Ave, LEFT on Alvin St. This brings you to a light to turn LEFT onto Middlefield to turn RIGHT into CFPA. You will save so much time and frustration from trying to wait for multiple lights on San Antonio.
See you in class.
Tim

Movie: The Bikeriders
The Bikeriders captures a rebellious time in America when the culture and people were changing. After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy (Jodie Comer) is inextricably drawn to Benny (Austin Butler), the newest member of Midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy). Much like the country around it, the club begins to evolve, transforming from a gathering place for local outsiders into a dangerous underworld of violence, forcing Benny to choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club.
Tim’s Takeaway:
I love referrals from members. They are often outside my comfort zone and I love that. I never heard of this movie before last week. But, I gave it a chance. It felt like a documentary as it is filmed like one, and gave an insight to a way of life I have never been exposed to. I’m not sure I can say I enjoyed this movie while I was watching it. However, I was captivated and HAD to finish it to find out what happened. I did enjoy the storytelling style and the way it ended.
Please send me more movies, books and podcasts that you find interesting and/or valuable.
Thank you for your support.
I look forward to what we will do together.
