Great America of Exercise

“CrossFit is the Great America of exercise.”
– Ari Gesher

Deep Squats (Thoughts)

I’m pretty sure I’ve described why I post so many photos of the aftermath at the end of a CrossFit workout, but here it is again since we all need reminders from time to time. TLDR: They are relatable.

CrossFit is HARD! It’s supposed to be hard. That’s what makes it “fun”. That’s what makes it effective. That’s what makes you feel, and know, that you’ve accomplished something. Doing these hard things changes us for the better. Because, isn’t that why you came here in the first place?

Unless you came here from another CrossFit gym knowing what you were getting into, you probably came here to be better than you were. There was something you didn’t like about your life, your self, your body or any myriad of things. And you found a whole bunch of other people with the same ideas about themselves. How refreshing to be so vulnerable with a group of strangers that become friends.

Back to the photos. The aftermath of effort and discomfort is a beautiful thing. When I first started coaching I would be afraid that I had hurt someone or that they wouldn’t want to come back if they were left gasping for breath on the floor. Instead, people would send personalized messages thanking me for pushing them. Over the years, I have learned to appreciate those that put out so much of themselves that they collapse at the end. It’s especially heartwarming to know our members feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable like that.

More than a decade ago, I had coffee with a member, Ari Gesher. He gave me some great insights into people, but the most memorable is the quote above. “CrossFit is the Great America of fitness.” We were drinking coffee at Philz on Forrest and watching traffic on Alma. He pointed into the street and said it would be REAL danger if I were to run out into the street. But CrossFit is only perceived danger. We FEEL like we’re going to die while were on the ride of the workout. It’s thrilling. BUT, we’re actually quite safe with a coach nearby watching out for us. He compared it to riding a roller coaster at Great America. Feels like danger, but actually quite safe. And thus, you want to ride it again and again.

See you in class.

“What’s the point of this?”

Timfluencing

The Pitt Series by HBO Max

The daily lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients, revealing the resilience required in their noble calling.

Tim’s Takeaway: I haven’t seen Noah Wyle in a show since ER in the late 1900’s. And I can’t tell you about this one, other than this show is 2 for 2 in being recommended by Bills at CFPA. Bill VD and Bill G both recommended this show so I know it’s going to be a good one. These two guys have trusted us for 15 years each, so you can trust them on this.

Thank you for your support.

I look forward to what we will do together.
