Chief Fun Officers

“Star in the role you have. Work for the role you want.”

Deep Community Squats (Thoughts)

from our Chief Fun Officers, Andrew and Ali.

Ali and I decided to stop working out in our garage alone and join CrossFit Palo Alto in 2021. One of the main reasons was to be part of a community again. CrossFit has a wonderful way of bringing people from all walks of life together in mutual suffering and camaraderie. We’ve really enjoyed setting up the various community events over the past year or so and we look forward to more in the future.

This past weekend was full of CFPA community as we planned a day out to the San Francisco Giants game on Saturday. As someone that grew up playing baseball I selfishly wanted to share the experience of going to a game with others in the community. Little did I know it would be the first ever baseball game for 5 of the members that joined us. To top it off the Giants won with an exciting 8th inning run. And, more importantly, none of us missed the CalTrain back!

If the game wasn’t enough, we also ran in the Spartan 10k Trail Challenge at Sanborn Park on Sunday. This started as a personal goal to complete this grueling 10k since it had been a few years since I last ran a 10k. Challenging myself outside of CFPA gives me a better understanding of my abilities. After I signed up, I joked with a few others after our TuTh 5pm class that it would be cool if our class took it on together. 8 members of our class signed up, including some that had never run more than a couple miles. Without anything more than our CFPA fitness we began ramping up our running to twice a week about a month before the race. We all showed up Sunday confident and ready to tackle the challenge of 6.8miles (longer than 10k I know!) and 1935ft of elevation gain (all in the first 3miles). Everyone finished in the top 25% or higher including a 10th place overall finish for Nicolai! We “enjoyed” the challenge enough that a few of us have already signed up for the Spartan Golden Gate Trail 15k in November. Get signed up to join us and let us know!

While busy, this past weekend is what I believe CrossFit is all about, being together with other like minded people all striving to better themselves in and out of the gym!

Ever think about coaching? Maybe you know someone that would be a great coach.

Let’s have a conversation.

Roughing It by: Mark Twain

“Roughing It is a book of semi-autobiographical travel literature written by American humorist Mark Twain. He wrote it during 1870–71 and published in 1872, as a prequel to his first book The Innocents Abroad (1869). This book tells of Twain’s adventures prior to his pleasure cruise related in Innocents Abroad.”

Tim’s Takeaway: This is another fun book to read/listen to. I found myself laughing and wondering if this part was true or embellished. It keeps you guessing and I think that was the point. It’s a travel book that reminds me of Bill Bryson’s books, of which I greatly recommend A Walk In The Woods. Let me know if you try it and what you think.

Thank you for your support.

I look forward to what we will do together.
