Seasons Change
“A problem well stated is half solved.”
Deep Squats (Thoughts)
For the last few years, I get a weekly newsletter from James Clear. Kinda like this one. I’ve enjoyed seeing his evolution as a writer and his style. His book, Atomic Habits is fantastic! Here’s an excerpt from last Thursday’s email that helped me today.
Many things in life go through phases. It can be like the seasons: spring, summer, fall, winter. Each season has its own set of needs and demands.
Think about something important to you. Maybe it’s a project or a job. Perhaps a hobby or even a relationship. What season are you in right now and what does that season require?

It was a struggle to pick what to write about today. Not because I have an abundance of breakthrough ideas and can’t pick just one, but the opposite. It’s a season where I’m very busy right now. But not busy in deep thought. It’s a “getting stuff done” season. Planning, arranging, shuttling kids, traveling, coaching. There are some great things happening with me and our family, but this email isn’t my personal life update for you.
I tell my kids to start writing by writing, “I don’t know what to write about,” knowing that will get them going. That’s what I did today, which led me to the excerpt from James above. It was a good reminder that not everything has to be the most amazing groundbreaking event/news ever. Sometimes, it’s just life. And that is okay.
So, enjoy the changing seasons as well as the constants of the sunrises and sunsets. We plan on being here like a constant for you as you go through the seasons.

When stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong, you have three choices: Avoid a crucial conversation and suffer the consequences; handle the conversation badly and suffer the consequences; or read Crucial Conversations and discover how to communicate best when it matters most. Crucial Conversations gives you the tools you need to step up to life’s most difficult and important conversations, say what’s on your mind, and achieve the positive resolutions you want. You’ll learn how to:
Prepare for high-impact situations with a six-minute mastery technique Make it safe to talk about almost anything Be persuasive, not abrasive Keep listening when others blow up or clam up Turn crucial conversations into the action and results you want
Tim’s Takeaway: I learn best with stories. I tell a lot of stories, too. Chapter 5 is getting a deep listening with notes being taken on the stories we tell. Helpless, villain and clever stories are so natural. I’m having to really think about my words and intentions to make the stories useful. A very convicting book. I like a challenge and this one is going to really push me to work on my tendencies in conversations.
Thank you for your support.
I look forward to what we will do together.
